Sport in Offenen Ganztagsschulen

The StadtSportVerband Recklinghausen (SSV RE) is responsible for the sports supervision of children at all Recklinghausen primary schools in the open all-day programme. Specialists employed by the SSV RE organise sports-specific and interdisciplinary sports clubs in the sports halls and facilities of the individual all-day schools and are therefore an elementary component of the children’s early physical and sports-oriented basic education. The aim is to introduce children of primary school age to the fun of exercise and to focus their interest in sport and the transition to one of Recklinghausen’s many sports clubs.

Are you interested in leading such a club? Then take a look at the flyer with all further information here.

Prehistory

Unlike many other local authorities, the town of Recklinghausen did not set up open all-day primary schools in the 2003/2004 school year. Instead, the intention was to first analyse the experiences of other local authorities and use the time to develop a sophisticated overall concept for all-day education in the town. In accordance with the conceptual requirements of the school authorities (existing childcare situation, spatial and structural condition of the building, site security for the future, forecast of the youth welfare office, sports and exercise facilities on site, sports hall, schoolyard, etc.), 7 primary schools were initially selected, which became open all-day primary schools in August 2004. The start was accompanied by an extensive conversion and extension programme (approx. 2,500 m² of new school space in modular construction).

The sponsorship of the afternoon programmes was divided up according to specialist aspects:

  • basic care at the schools is provided by AWO, Diakonisches Werk and Sozialdienst katholischer Frauen (sponsorship concept according to the respective “strengths”)
  • Lunch is organised centrally for all schools by the school authorities (comprehensive schools, OGS and some secondary schools with over 1,000 meals a day)
  • Sports supervision is provided at all schools by the StadtSportVerband Recklinghausen; this relieves the burden on basic supervision and the space situation through the use of sports halls (especially during the transition and construction phase)

Recklinghausen sports clubs have the opportunity to help organise the exercise programme at Recklinghausen all-day primary schools. Please contact Daniel Gohrke (gohrke@ssv-re.de).
