Sport has always had a special significance in Recklinghausen, the city of the world-famous annual Ruhr Festival. The citizens of Recklinghausen live their sport – above all in the organised sports clubs. The StadtSportVerband Recklinghausen (SSV RE) plays a decisive role in the promotion and development of sport at a local level. The diverse tasks and objectives of such an association cover various areas that help to create a healthy and active community.

A key objective is the promotion of grassroots sport. The aim here is to make sports activities accessible to people of all ages and from all walks of life. This not only creates a healthy living environment, but also promotes social integration and intercultural exchange

As the umbrella organisation of currently 106 sports clubs, the SSV RE occupies a central position. This task is also of fundamental importance for the coordination, promotion and further development of sporting life in the community. As an umbrella organisation, the SSV RE takes on the task of coordinating between the numerous sports clubs in Recklinghausen. This networking enables an effective exchange of information, resources and experience between the clubs, which contributes to greater co-operation and a common goal. SSV RE promotes the diversity of sports programmes offered in Recklinghausen. By bringing together different sports and interests, the SSV RE helps to offer a broad and appealing range of sporting opportunities for citizens of all ages. In its function as a representative of its affiliated sports clubs, which currently have around 24,000 members, the SSV RE acts as a mouthpiece for sports clubs vis-à-vis local authorities and the public. It represents the interests of the clubs, campaigns for the creation of suitable framework conditions and contributes to the appreciation of sport as an integral part of urban life.

Another important goal is co-operation with educational institutions. As a general provider of exercise, games and sports programmes in open all-day activities, the role of SSV RE and its sports clubs is fundamental to the holistic development of children and young people. This task goes far beyond the provision of purely sporting activities and contributes to comprehensive support. The open all-day programme offers the opportunity to motivate children and young people to take more exercise. SSV RE plays a central role in organising exercise programmes that not only promote physical health, but also awaken the joy of regular activity and promote social integration through a wide range of exercise, games and sports activities. By working together with the Recklinghausen sports clubs, a variety of activities can be offered, enabling the children to discover their individual interests and strengths and promote their personal development. At a time when children’s lack of exercise is increasing, the SSV RE is an important player in prevention. Through attractive and varied programmes, exercise is established as an integral part of everyday life, which contributes to a healthier lifestyle in the long term. These tasks contribute to the creation of a holistic educational environment that goes beyond the purely school context and has a long-term positive impact on the quality of life of the younger generation.

The SSV RE is committed to improving the sports infrastructure in our sports city. Another important goal is the promotion of health through regular sporting activity. The SSV RE informs the population about the health benefits of sport and supports programmes to prevent illness through physical activity. The SSV RE represents the interests of sport to political decision-makers. This includes lobbying for financial support, creating favourable conditions for sport and participating in urban planning processes to ensure that the needs of sport are adequately taken into account. Overall, SSV RE plays a crucial role in creating a vibrant sporting culture in Recklinghausen that not only promotes physical health, but also strengthens social networking and a sense of community.

The SSV RE website is not only intended to cultivate the image of the association, but also to enable interested parties from all over the world who are looking for contacts to communicate directly with the clubs and the right contact person.

If, for whatever reason, you are unable to reach the club or contact person you are looking for, simply choose the route via the SSV RE. We will try to put you in touch with the clubs as quickly as possible through the direct contact we have built up over the years.
